This is my favorite tarantino movie, Im glad I found this video. Looks like Once Upon A Time in Hollywood doesnt get the love it deserves. None of my friends liked the film, I loved it so much I was crying so hard by the end this was the first time for me in a Tarantino movie, to make me so emotional. I feel like anyone who loves films and loves actors, and directors and creativity...we all have a bit of sadness for what happened to Sharon Tate. I feel like this is the ultimate thing we wish for a true fantasy, our favorite actor getting a come back, a beloved actress being saved from all that violence and cruelty and the strong leading man getting his chance to raise to the occasion.

Anyone else when hearing Frank Herbert warn about "charismatic leaders" immediately think of Trump?

11:30 I don't think Paul killing Jamis necessarily means he can change the future he sees. I took it more as his visions being metaphorical. Jamil was a mentor in his vision. You could also say he teaches him the ways of the Fremen. And in a way he still does. The fight, forcing Paul to kill him, does teach Paul about the ways of the Fremen. Chani stabbing Paul may be something we've yet to see but you could see her leaving him at the end of Dune 2 and foresaking his cause as a betrayal of him. Akin to "being stabbed in the back". A metaphor.

Sorry, but for me the Dune movies fail cos the ‘characters’ are not fleshed out or likeable in any way. Honestly wouldn’t have cared if they’d all been wiped out cos, for me, this director hasn’t a clue what to do with them. You can have all the ‘ground-breaking’ production & ‘soundscapes’ in the world, but if one has no interest in the characters it becomes tedious very quickly. Simply got bored trying to care what happened in the 1st effort, so won’t be watching the 2nd or indeed any of this guy’s other output.

Didn't like the changes to Chani's character. The film makers gave her a very off-putting personality, made her a skeptic of the Freman prophecy and overemphasized her being a warrior. In the book she is deferential toward Paul and Jessica, and she has Paul's first child which is completely omitted in favor of seeing her running around beating up big men in part 2. Makes me really appreciate the original 1984 film more. Sean Young was better in the role and way prettier.

I loved 'em both. Watched the first one the night before opening night. It was an amazing experience. The more I watch 'em the more I think they're in my top 3 trilogies

Part 2 was a great experience, but I definitely found Part 1 a more interesting experience overall.

When the same book is adapted *40 years apart* by different directors. 40 years is a long time; it isn't just technology that's moved forward, so too have audience preferences & expectations.

There needs to be an extended director cut of the movie that stitches both movies together with extra scenes

imagine people were mature enough to review man of steel this way. Instead it was just fidelity to some silly movie needing to have a one film character arc

Part 2, was at best, less worse than the dreadful Part 1, but, that is not saying a lot either. I have read the books, and I only sort of recognized what was going on. It looked nice, DV knows how to shoot a good looking film, he is competent that way, and occasionally, he writes a compelling movie. OCCASIONALLY. Dune, either part, was not one of those occasions. The only thing we get from this movie, is some well visualized ornithopters and worms, what we see of them and.................that's all I got.

Lynch's Dune is absolute bonkers.

As a painter who loves use of color, I'm devastated I've never noticed this; on the other hand its so seamlessly woven in all I can really feel is appreciation. Great movie, great video.

Oppenheimer is one of those really long movies that even with my ADHD it was stimulating enough that I felt relaxed and stimulated enough to keep 150% attention.

Anybody remember how some movies in the early 2000s would film everything in blue tones for nighttime? Drove me nuts lol. I love La La Land and similar colorful movies!

The largest difference between both adaptations is that the 80s version makes it so that Paul is an actual prophecized messiah with supernatural abilities such as being able to make it rain on command and crack stone with his voice. New dune is in line with the book where Paul has no supernatural abilities and his abilities are derived from honing his body and mind or consuming the spice melange to awaken his visions. This has never settled right with me because it misses the whole warning message of the book. Dune is a warning against the power of prophecies to control people and FALSE messiahs. This is absent from the 80s version and Paul is seen as a complete hero for saving the fremen which is a complete bastardization of the end of the first book. I believe that many people enjoy the 80s version so much because it is a traditional hero’s journey when the books are much more complicated than that. That complexity is perfectly captured in the Denis Villeneuve movies. It should be clear that Paul is wrong for manipulating the fremen to achieve his own ends. The most ironic quote from the 80s version is when the narrator says that Muad’dib brought “peace where there was once war.” This is the complete opposite from the books where the aftermath of the first book leads to a jihad or holy war that kills 61 billion people across the galaxy. Muad’dib brought war where there was once peace. New Dune perfectly captures the warning message of Frank Herbert’s novel especially through the character of Chani. Old dune could not have even made a Dune: Messiah adaptation because of how badly they butchered the original novel so I look very negatively on David Lynch’s Dune.

As a weee lad, I absolutely loved Dune, & the Children of Dune spin-off series. As crusty old man, I was completely awestruck of the scale in some of the ominous scenes, the writing & actor role execution was what made this current iteration of Dune nothing short of otherworldly. (pun intended) I can't wait for part III, & perhaps some more spin-offs!

Sorry, Part II is good but Chani's story was just awful, that was not the character at all.

I totally understand Lynch's aversion to his Dune and the constraints he was put under, but some of it wouldn't have been good regardless. The environments, set pieces and costume designs were brilliant, especially for the time, but some of it is unwatchable even when considering the period it was made in. The acting is beyond clunky, and while I don't want to compare it too much to blockbusters like Star Wars, movies like those hail from the same time period but the acting is much more stomachable by comparison. Some of the casting is really bad, and no offenseto Kyle McLachlan but he feels completely mismatched, too old, and too over the top.

I think the film's visualization and the overall approach to telling Villeneuve version of Dune is hopelessly broken. I said it after the first film and will restate it now that I've seen the second movie, I dont think he read the books.
